10 takeaways from seeing Andrew Huberman LIVE

I attended Dr Andrew Huberman live in Melbourne.

My 10 takeaways.

1) I was inspired before he even took stage.
5400 people came to hear this man speak. He has touched so many people’s lives. A taste of the scale of impact that I one day hope to have.

2) The sun.
The sun tells us ‘when’ we are in space. Watching the sun rise in the morning and set in the evening is the best way to set your body clock.

3) The 1st way to instantaneously reduce your stress and anxiety – 2 sniffs + 1 exhale.
I have tried this. Variable results so far. I am still experimenting with it.

4) The 2nd way to instantaneously reduce your stress and anxiety – adopt a ‘panoramic view’.
This works for me. Adopting a wide perception of the world in the moment is relaxing.

5) There are 3 neurochemicals that ‘activate’ us and ensure we are alert – dopamine, adrenaline and noradrenaline.
In a world full of tired people (often including me), there is a huge opportunity here. I need to look into this more.

6) The 1st way to increase neuroplasticity in adults – Learn how to focus.
The plasticity of a child’s brain is shaped passively through exposure to the buffet of life’s sensory experiences. For an adult, they need ‘active and focussed’ exposure. I need to look into this more.

7) The 2nd way to increase neuroplasticity in adults – Learn to how rest and sleep.
You can work at a certain skill for hours in one day and not get it. You go to sleep and the next morning, suddenly you have the skill.

8) NSDR – Non Sleep Deep Rest.
This was new to me and potentially a game changer. You are awake. Your body is still. Your mind is active. Let it be active. You mind may come up with game changing insights. Rick Rubin (legendary music producer) does this for hours every day.

9) Lean into hard and challenging things.
This has been shown to develop the anterior mid cingulate cortex (aMCC) which is involved in our ability to demonstrate tenacity and persistency in the face of challenge.

10) I was also inspired as he left the stage.
“I don’t want or need credit. Just share this information widely.” Wow.

Thank you Dr Huberman – seeing you live may have changed the trajectory of my life. Time will tell.

Much love to you and of course myself,

Dr G
